CINCINNATI - Joe Kastelic continued his tear through the Greater Cincinnati Golf Association Metropolitan Amateur Championship, winning both of his matches today at Losantiville Country Club. He and UC teammate Andrew Desmarais advanced to the round of eight with two match play wins on Thursday.
Kastelic defeated Jonathan Coleman, 8 and 7, in the round of 32 and Marty Arnzen, 4 and 3, in the round of 16. He will take on Kevin Hartoin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday in the quarterfinals. A win there would send him into a semifinal match at 12:30 p.m. The 36-hole final will take place on Saturday.
Desmarais defeated Ron Johnson, 5 and 4, and then topped Dylan Ramsey, 1 up, to move into the quarterfinals. He will square off against Sebastian Maclean at 7:48 a.m.
At the Women's Western Golf Association Amateur Championship, Bambee Dela Paz was eliminated in the round of 32 by Mary Narzisi, 5 and 4. Dela Paz qualified for match play and won her opening match against fellow Philippines native Andrea Unson, 1 up.
