CINCINNATI - Former University of Cincinnati baseball player Kevin Youkilis is in the midst of a tight race to earn the 34th and final spot on the American League roster for the 2010 Major League Baseball All-Star game that will be played on Tuesday, July 13, at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif.

After 24 hours of voting, Youkilis currently is in second place in the 2010 All-Star Game Final Vote behind New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher. Texas Rangers third baseman Michael Young is in third place, followed by Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko and Minnesota Twins left fielder Delmon Young.

The ninth annual All-Star Game Final Vote ballot commenced exclusively on MLB.com and the individual club sites at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday and will continue until balloting concludes at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Entering Tuesday, Youkilis owns a .299 batting average, has blasted 17 long balls, driven in 54 RBIs, and scored 65 runs. If Youkilis earns enough votes to earn the final spot on the roster, it would be his third consecutive All-Star appearance.
