NEWPORT, R.I. - The University of Cincinnati football team was picked second in the BIG EAST Conference preseason poll, released Tuesday morning at the league's annual media day in Newport, R.I.

The Bearcats, two-time defending BIG EAST Champions, earned 142 points, tying for the second spot with West Virginia. Voting was undertaken by media representatives from each of the conference's eight schools.

Pittsburgh was chosen as the league favorite, earning 190 points to top the poll.

Pitt received 22 of 24 first-place votes in the preseason tabulation. Connecticut and West Virginia also received a single first-place vote.

UC (12-1, 7-0 BIG EAST in 2009) has won the last two BIG EAST titles and brings an 18-game regular-season winning streak into 2010.

Cincinnati was represented at BIG EAST Media Day by head coach Butch Jones, senior wide receiver Armon Binns, junior quarterback Zach Collaros, and junior linebacker J.K. Schaffer.

The Bearcats report in for fall practice on Sunday, and hit the practice field for the first time Monday afternoon.
