Former University of Cincinnati standout Josh Schneider will compete in the 2010 ConocoPhillips National Championships which will be held from Aug. 3-7 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif.
The event will also serve as trials for numerous events, including the 2010 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships to be held in Irvine later in August. Some of the top American swimmers are scheduled to compete, including Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps, Katie Hoff along with emerging American talent like Schneider. The competition will be televised nationally by NBC.
The 2010 NCAA Champion in the 50 freestyle, Schneider's top event in the 50-meter freestyle, which takes place on Thursday, Aug. 5. Schneider is the No. 9 seed in the event with his season-best time of 22.18. Among those seeded ahead of him are former Olympians Cullen Jones (21.40/1), Nathan Adrian (21.46/2), and Garrett Weber-Gale (21.55/3). Schneider defeated Adrian in the 2010 NCAA Championship 50-yard freestyle event.
He will also swim the 100-meter freestyle as the No. 31 seed (50.34) and 100-meter butterfly with a short course seed time of 46.12. The 100 free takes place on Friday, Aug. 6 while the butterfly is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 5.
