The second annual Future Bearcats Gridiron Classic will take place at Nippert Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 7 and Saturday, Aug. 14, bringing youth football teams from Cincinnati, Columbus, and Indiana to the UC campus.
The event has expanded to two weekends because of its success in 2009.
"Milford Youth Football and Cheerleading is elated to partner with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats in bringing the Gridiron Classic to the youth in our region. This event is not about wins and losses, but the experience for our boys and girls," said Mike Stahanczyk from Milford Youth Football and Cheerleading. "We believe this event gives boys and girls an experience that they will remember for a lifetime. We hope that our boys and girls will someday want to be a part of the UC experience and be motivated to become Bearcats."
Aside from playing a game at Nippert, participating teams will experience a behind the scene tour of the Lindner Center and the chance to run out of the UC tunnel before each game. GameWorks at Newport on the Levee will also contribute special offers to kids participating in the event.
"UC will continue to produce these unforgettable experiences for kids in our community," said Greg Harrell, UC's Director of Marketing and New Business. "When kids are watching the Bearcats on ESPN this fall, they will have a chance to tell friends and family "I played/cheered there!". That's a really cool thing and I'm glad we have been able to provide this opportunity."
The Future Bearcats program was launched in 2008 to help promote the importance of athletics and education in our community.
The program provides youth organizations with the opportunity to attend a UC sporting event at a special price and includes on-field opportunities, facility tours, and special opportunities to meet UC players and coaches.
The program also includes Bearcats Fridays, which sends the Bearcat into local schools and encourages kids at that school to wear red and black.
