WEST HARRISON, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati football team returned to practice Monday with a single workout after enjoying an off day on Sunday at the Higher Ground Conference & Retreat Center in West Harrison, Ind.

The team spent Sunday in meetings and also got in a lifting and conditioning session. The weather broke Monday morning, cutting down on the heat and humidity. The Bearcats worked out in full pads for a little over two hours under the sunny skies.

Wrapping the first week of camp, head coach Butch Jones was pleased with the team's progress but knows there is a long way to go.

"We took a big step today," Jones said. "We threw a lot of situational football stuff at the team and they responded well. We've been very heavy on the install in the last week. We'll start paring that down soon and start locking in on our gameplan for Fresno State.

Tight end Ben Guidugli was named Monday to the watch list for the John Mackey Award. The award recognizes the nation's top collegiate tight end. Guidugli, a second-team all-BIG EAST Conference selection a year ago, was the fourth-leading receiver on the team, grabbing 27 balls for 264 yards and three touchdowns. He was also a second-team Preseason all-America selection by Sporting News.
