WEST HARRISON, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati football team held a 20-period practice Saturday, including extensive situatlional scrimmaging at the Higher Ground Conference and Retreat Center in West Harrison, Ind.
The second- and third-team student-athletes saw the majority of the action on the day as the coaches are starting to pare down to the travel list for the 2010 season opener at Fresno State on Sept. 4, 2010.
It was family day at Higher Ground. Players families were on hand to view practice and enjoyed dinner with the team after thet wo-hour workout.
"It was great to see all the families out here for practice and dinner," head coach Butch Jones said. "They are such an important part of what we do here and we were glad to welcome them in to our preseason home. On today's practice, our 2s and 3s got a lot of quality reps. We will go back and grade the film and know more tonight. On another note, freshmen Adrian Witty was the first newcomer to have the stripe removed from his helmet by his big brother."
Witty, a defensive back out of Deerfield Beach, Fla., joined the team in January and has put together a solid camp, working his way into the rotation on the 2-deep. Under the big brother program, each newcomer is assigned an upperclassmen as his big brother. The big brother serves as a mentor and decides when his little brother loses the white stripe on his helmet.
