WEST HARRISON, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati football team returned to the practice field Monday, getting in a two-hour workout at the Higher Ground Conference and Retreat Center in West Harrison, Ind.
UC started its installation of the Fresno State gameplan as both offense and defensive units worked with their opposing scout teams for the first time.
The Bearcat package, UC's version of the Wildcat formation, made its return today with the combo of John Goebel, Isaiah Pead, and Darrin Williams in the backfield and quarterback Zach Collaros lined up at wide receiver. Pead showcased a pretty good throwing arm, something head coach Butch Jones would like to take advantage of during the seasson.
I'd like to try and get those three on the field at the same time," Jones said. "It gives us a number of weapons and a different dynamic offensively. We will see if we can find a place to use it this season."
The end of practice featured a physical goalline scrimmage that featured some three and four tight end sets.
Head women's basketball coach Jamelle Elliott observed practice and later ate dinner with the team. Dr. Terren Frenz, director of the Bearcats Bands, also joined the team for dinner and was scheduled to help teach the team the fight song at their evening meeting.
