The Games:

  • No. 19 Cincinnati returns to Gettler Stadium for a three-game homestand
  • UC will play the College of Charleston on Friday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. and take on Western Michigan, on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m.
  • The Sunday match will serve as the opening act for the UC men's match against Detriot at 3:30 p.m.
  • The Bearcats are 3-0-1 to start the season, the first time since the 1996 season that UC has been unbeaten in its first four games of the year
  • After defeating No. 20 Wisconsin, UC moved into the national rankings, earning the No. 19 spot in the Soccer America Women's Top 25 poll
  • The Bearcats have not been nationally ranked since 2002 season when they cracked the Top 25 on two different occasions
  • That year the Bearcats finished the season with an overall record of 17-4-3, won the Conference USA Tournament, and knocked off Kentucky 1-0 in the NCAA Tournament before bowing out, 2-1, to No. 11 Tennessee. UC was ranked as high as No. 21 during that season


Series History:

  • The College of Charleston match is the first meeting for the two teams
  • The Bearcats will play Western Michigan for the first time as well


Awards and Honors:

  • Kelli Pawelko was named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week #2
  • Kelli Pawelko was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week (8/30/10)
  • Pawelko scored the game-winner against No. 20 Wisconsin on Aug. 29
  • Rachel Barnette was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll (8/30/10) after posting back-to-back shutouts and recording eight saves
  • Barnette's back-to-back shutouts is the first time since the 2008 season that a UC goalkeeper has recorded back-to-back shutouts
  • Emily Hebbeler was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll (8/23/10)
  • Hebbeler scored two goals against Morehead State, her first multi-goal game and UC's first since Sept. 13, 2009


30 Years:

  • During the 2010 season UC will celebrate 30 seasons of varsity women's soccer
  • On Saturday, Oct. 2, the Bearcats will have a special evening for all former players and on Sunday, Oct. 3, all former players in attendance will be honored at halftime of the BIG EAST contest against Pittsburgh


Depth and Firepower:

  • Head coach Michelle Salmon has noted that the 2010 squad is her deepest since she has been at UC
  • There are 11 midfielders, nine forwards, three defenders and two goalkeepers on the roster
  • Junior Emily Hebbeler, who was one of the team's top scoring threats in 2009, picked up where she left off, scoring two goals in the season opener
  • UC's Logan Ballinger (MF), who missed most of last season due to an injury, scored the game-winning goal at Bowling Green
  • The 2010 team captains are senior Sydney Barker, and juniors Logan Ballinger and Kay Young


Challenging Schedule:

  • Four of UC's opponents on the 2010 schedule were ranked in the NCAA Women's Division I Preseason Poll
  • Notre Dame, the second BIG EAST opponent UC will take on this year, is currently ranked No. 3
  • Rutgers and Georgetown are also in the Top 25 with Northwestern, Wisconsin, Louisville, Illinois and Marquette receiving votes
  • Cincinnati defeated No. 20 Wisconsin on the road, the second time in as many seasons that the Bearcats have knocked off a ranked opponent (winning 1-0 on 10/4/09 at No. 12 St. John's)


Last Time Out:

  • Cincinnati went the distance with Nortwestern, finishing in a 0-0 draw after two overtimes
  • The Bearcats defeated No. 20 Wisconsin, 1-0 in the final match of the Wisconsin Tournament
  • Kelli Pawelko scored her first career goal, the game-winner against No. 20 Wisconsin
