Bearcats Welcome Detroit on Sunday

The Game:

• Following a season-opening 1-0 win against rival Dayton on Sept. 1, the UC men's soccer team will welcome Detroit to Gettler Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 5.
• The game will kick off at approximately 3:30 p.m. as the second half of a doubleheader with the No. 19-ranked women's program.

Series History:

• UC takes on Detroit for the first time.

Story Lines:

• Head coach Hylton Dayes is in his 10th season at Cincinnati and 20th as a head coach. Dayes holds a 80-73-22 mark at UC and a 176-158-41 overall record.
• Dayes is the second winningest coach in UC history, behind only Bob Muro, who posted a 114-111-13 mark in 12 seasons on the Bearcats sideline.
• Senior goalkeeper Matt Williams posted his 12th career shutout against Dayton on Sept. 1. He is tied for sixth on UC's all-time list with Tom Young.
• The Bearcats have won three straight season openers and are unbeaten in the last five home openers (4-0-1).
• UC welcomes two new assistant coaches this season in Jeremy Bonomo and Chris Black. Bonomo, a former head coach at Assumption College, comes to the midwest after three seasons at Assumption and a pair as an assistant at Southern New Hampshire, his alma mater. Black, a Findley University graduate, has spent the last four seasons as an assistant at Wright State.
• The Bearcats roster features players from near and far. Ohio products hold 12 roster spots with eight hailing from the Greater Cincinnati/Dayton area. Seven Bearcats hail from outside the United States, including four from Canada, two from Jamaica, and one from Scotland.

Rough Road:

• The 2010 schedule features matches against four preseason Top 25 teams, including preseason No. 1 Akron.
• UC will welcome No. 16 USF and No. 20 Louisville to Gettler Stadium.
• The Bearcats will play in Akron's tournament on Sept. 17-19 and will travel to No. 17 St. John's during BIG EAST play.

Last Time Out:

• UC opened the 2010 season the same way it opened the 2009 season - with a win against rival Dayton.
• Matt Bahner scored the first goal of 2010 for UC just 5:53 into the match and the score held up as the Bearcats won, 1-0.
• Sophomore transfer Roger Thompson, who earned the start at center back in his first UC action, was credited with his first career assist on Bahner's goal.
• Matt Williams made three saves to earn his 12th career shutout.
• The Bearcats have won three straight season openers and consecutive season openers against Dayton.

Up Next:

• The Bearcats will host the BIG EAST adidas Challenge next weekend, welcoming Appalachian State on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. and Fordham on Sept. 12 at 1 p.m.
