CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's and women's cross country teams opened up the 2010 season in style on Saturday, September 11 at the Queen City Invitational at the Voice of America Park in West Chester as the women's team finished first and the men's team second.
The women's team captured the team crown with four of its seven runners finishing among the Top 10 in the race, including senior Michele McKenney who won the individual title in a time of 18:04.00. McKenney was followed closely by Lilian Jelimo in second place (18:16.00), 12 seconds back, Alison Zukowski (18:31.00), 27 seconds behind, and Jill Glassmeyer (18:48.00), 44 seconds behind first place. Cortney Staruch (19:02.00), Katie Lewnard (19:19.00), and Emily Thompson (20:13.00) rounded out the field for UC.
The UC men finished second in the meet for the second year in a row, trailing first-place Xavier by 17 points thanks in a great part to junior Eric Finan winning the men's individual meet in a time of 14:46.00. Oliver Book finished three spots behind Finan, running the loop in a time of 15:19.00.
Next week the teams travel to New York City to take part in the Iona Meet of Champions on Saturday, Sept. 18 before taking part in the All-Ohio Meet on Friday, Oct. 1 in Cedarville, Ohio.
