FOOTBALL HEADS TO NC STATE FOR THURSDAY ESPN MATCHUP
The University of Cincinnati football team will play its third game in 12 days Thursday as it travels to Raleigh, N.C. to take on the North Carolina State University Wolfpack in a nationally-televised ESPN game. The Bearcats evened their 2010 record at 1-1 following a 40-7 win against Indiana State at Nippert Stadium, extending UC's 13-game home winning streak.

THE SERIES
Thursday marks the first meeting between the Bearcats and Wolfpack.

THE COACHES
Butch Jones, named the head coach at the University of Cincinnati on Dec. 16, 2009, is in his first season at the helm of the UC program and is 1-1. Jones most recently led Central Michigan University to a pair of Mid-American Conference Championships and three-straight bowl appearances. He holds a 28-14 overall record and a 22-3 mark in league games.

TOM O'BRIEN, a Cincinnati native, is in his fourth season at NC State. He has an 18-21 record at NC State and a 14-year career mark of 92-66. He is 0-1 against UC, dropping a 24-6 decision in 1997 while the head coach at Boston College.

A LOOK AHEAD
UC will take on No. 7/9 Oklahoma at Paul Brown Stadium on Sept. 25, 2010. It marks the second matchup between the two schools with the Sooners holding a 1-0 advantage after knocking off UC 52-26 in 2008.

STREAKS, STORYLINES, SIDEBARS ...

  • The University of Cincinnati is in its 123rd football season with an all-time record of 548-543-51 (.502).
  • Cincinnati (1885) is one of the five oldest programs in college football along with Rutgers (1869), Michigan (1879), Navy (1880), and Minnesota (1883).
  • UC opened up the 2010 campaign on Sept. 4 at Fresno State, dropping a 28-14 decision and evened its record with a 40-7 win in the home opener against Indiana State on Sept. 11.
  • UC plays its first three games in a 12-day span and only two games over the next 24 days, including having nine days to prepare for Oklahoma on Sept. 25.
  • Cincinnati's rush defense leads the BIG EAST Conference and ranks 10th nationally, giving up an average of 71 yards per game.
  • UC has seven new starters on defense this season.
  • Cincinnati finished with 263 rushing yards against Indiana State, UC's most in a game since tallying 263 rushing yards against San Diego State on Sept. 29, 2007.
  • WR Armon Binns has 10 catches in two games along with two TDs and has had a reception in 15 straight games.
  • LB JK Schaffer and DL Derek Wolfe lead the defense with 16 and 13 tackles, respectively.
  • LB Antwan Darling, WR Anthony McClung, DB Adrian Witty are the only true freshmen on the squad to see playing time through two games in 2010.
  • WR Vidal Hazelton will miss the rest of the season after injuring his knee on a kickoff return at Fresno State.
  • Cincinnati won its second-straight BIG EAST Conference title and second BCS bowl bid in 2009.
