BRONX, N.Y. - The University of Cincinnati women's and men's cross country teams finished ninth and 11th, respectively, at the 16th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. Saturday morning. In the men's race, which featured runners from 11 regionally ranked teams, including nationally-ranked Iona, Cincinnati junior Eric Finan (New Richmond, Ohio/New Richmond) finished first out of 207 runners to lead the Bearcats.

The men's team finished with 237 points to earn 11th as a team, one point behind the University of Kentucky in 10th. The women's team posted ninth in the Meet of Champions with 218 points, five behind eighth place Iona. Nine teams in the field for the women's race were ranked regionally.

Finan, who won the Meet of Champions last year in 25:21.60, improved on his time this year completing the 8K race in a time of 24:48.45, besting American International's Glarius Rop by 10 seconds for the 2010 individual title. Sophomore Oliver Book was the next-best finisher for the Bearcats, running a 21st-place time of 25:51. Book was followed by senior Tommy Morgan, who crossed the line in a time of 26:31. Senior David Barry (26.35/70th) and freshman Kevin Fink (26:46/80th) rounded out the scoring for UC.

In the women's race, senior Lilian Jelimo paced the Bearcats, completing the 6K race in 22:30.50, good for 13th place individually. Senior Michele McKenney, the winner of last week's Queen City Invitational, finished 34 seconds behind Jelimo in 23:05 for 30th place. Freshman Alison Zukowski followed closely behind in 41st place in 23:28. Seniors Jill Glassmeyer and Katie Lewnard were the last two scorers for UC, completing in 23:40 and 24:22, respectively, for 52nd and 82nd places.

Cincinnati has two weeks off before competing at the All-Ohio Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 1, in Cedarville, Ohio.
