Sept. 19, 2010
AKRON, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at No. 1 Akron in the finale of the University of Akron Tournament on Sunday (Sept. 19) afternoon at Lee Jackson Field.
Anthony Ampaipitakwong scored on a free kick in the 13th minute and Akron's stingy defense, which hasn't allowed a goal in 10 matches, made the early lead stand up.
The Bearcats (2-2-2) have dropped two straight after starting the season unbeaten through the first four matches.
After falling in an early hole, UC had a pair of scoring chances early in the second half. Nick Weightman (Lanark, Scotland/St. Aiden's) earned a pair of free kicks just outside the Akron box, but both were off the mark.
Akron outshot UC, 12-4, for the match.
Matt Williams (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) made three saves and allowed just his third goal through six matches this season.
Cincinnati will return home to open BIG EAST play on Sept. 25 against Georgetown. Kickoff between the Bearcats and Hoyas will be 7 p.m. in Gettler Stadium.
