MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team equaled its season-best winning streak at four matches with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-19) victory at Morehead State University. Senior outside hitter Stephanie Niemer, who was recently named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week, continued her impressive play with 18 kills, six digs, four blocks, and a service ace, while hitting a match-best .567.
The Bearcats roared out of the blocks vs. Morehead State, jumping to a 15-6 lead on the Eagles. After pushing the lead out to 10 points at 23-13, Morehead cut the lead to six with four straight points before UC closed out the set with the final two points. Cincinnati dominated the set out hitting MSU .429 to .036.
After the Eagles started out with a 2-1 lead in the second set, UC took nine of the next 11 points to take the lead at 10-4. From there Morehead State slowly chipped away at the UC lead until cutting it to four at 19-15. Cincinnati proceeded to reel off the next six points of the set thanks to excellent passing from Annie Fesl who assisted on five of the points. Fesl finished the set with 13 of her match-high 32 assists.
The third set featured back-and-forth play as UC slowly built its lead up to four points and then battled throughout the set. Morehead State cut that lead to one at 19-18, but Niemer posted four kills in the next seven points of the set to lock down the UC victory.
UC posted a team hitting percentage of .369 and 18 blocks in the victory, while Morehead State hit just .102 against the Bearcats.
