CINCINNATI - Nick Weightman (Lanark, Scotland/St. Aidens) scored his first goal of the season to lead the University of Cincinnati men's soccer team to a 2-0 win against Georgetown on Saturday night (Sept. 25) in the BIG EAST opener for each team.

The Bearcats (3-2-2, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) posted the fourth shutout in seven matches this season and lowered the team goals-against average to 0.40.

Following a scoreless first half, Weightman put UC in front in the 56th minute. Mark Konitsch (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence Senior) sent a cross into the box that was tapped on by Matt Bahner (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and put home by the right foot of Weightman for his first of the season.

Georgetown (2-4-1, 0-1-0) ratcheted up the pressure and had a few opportunities to knot the score, including a Steve Neumann header that slipped just wide left in the 70th minute.

The Bearcats put the match away in the 84th on Bahner's fourth goal of the season. With the GU backline pushed forward in search of the equalized, sophomore Dan Dwyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Houston Baptist) played a through ball in to Bahner, who got behind the Hoyas defense and beat Matt Brutto. Bahner has scored four of Cincinnati's five goals in 2010.

Matt Williams (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) made three saves in posting his fourth shutout of the season. He moved into a tie for second in school history with his 15th career clean sheet (Mike Vessells, Mike Mobley).

The Bearcats allowed just eight shots, and only three on goal. UC is outshooting opponents, 90-66, this season.

Cincinnati will take on crosstown rival Xavier on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. at the XU Soccer Complex.
