The Games:
- Cincinnati remains at Gettler Stadium for two key BIG EAST Conference matches. The Bearcats take on West Virginia University on Friday, Oct. 1, in a 7 p.m. match and then play Pittsburgh in a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 3.
- The WVU match has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Night and will be dedicated to recognizing cancer survivors and research that is being done for the cause. UC players will wear pink uniforms in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
- UC will celebrate 30 years of varsity women's soccer this weekend with a special evening for all former players on Saturday, Oct. 2. On Sunday, Oct. 3, all former players in attendance will be honored prior to the match against Pittsburgh.
Storylines and Notes:
- After starting the season unbeaten in its first six games for the first time in school history, UC is now 6-4-1 overall and 0-3-0 in BIG EAST Conference action.
- UC was ranked No. 19 and No. 15 in the Soccer America Women's Top 25 poll earlier this season, the first time since the 2002 season that UC cracked the Top 25.
- Head coach Michelle Salmon is 24-21-5 in her three seasons at UC and is four wins away from her 100th career win (96-83-19) during her 11 years as a head coach.
Series History:
- The match against West Virginia is the second. UC lost to the Mountaineers, 2-0, in 2007.
- Cincinnati defeated Pittsburgh the only time the two teams met, 2-1 (2ot), in 2007.
Awards and Honors:
- Rachel Barnette was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Team of the Week for Monday Aug. 30 through Sunday Sept. 5 after back-to-back shutouts and six saves.
- Kelli Pawelko was named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week #2.
- Kelli Pawelko was twice named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week (8/30/10 and 9/6/10).
- Pawelko scored the game-winner against No. 20 Wisconsin on Aug. 29.
- Rachel Barnette was twice named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (8/30/10 and 9/6/10).
- Barnette recorded four straight shutouts, the first time since the 2008 season that a UC goalkeeper recorded four consecutive shutouts.
- Emily Hebbeler was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (8/23/10).
- Hebbeler scored two goals against Morehead State, her first multi-goal game and UC's first since Sept. 13, 2009.
Bearcat Bites:
- Emily Hebbeler leads the team with nine points and four goals.
- Julie Morrissey has taken the most shots for UC, 26.
- Kelli Pawelko, a defender, leads the team with two assists.
- Eight of UC's 11 goals have come in the second half.
- UC has taken 55 corner kicks, compared to 46 corner kicks by opponents.
- Rachel Barnette has recorded five shutouts.
- Natalie Domanic and Ashley Daniels have played in UC's last two games.
- West Virginia has played at least two less games than other BIG EAST teams this season.
- The Mountaineers have committed the least amount of fouls, 71, in the BIG EAST. They average 7.89 fouls a game, compared to UC's 12.64 fouls a game.
- WVU averages 1.56 goals a game, Pittsburgh 1.10 and UC 1.00 goals a game.
- Pittsburgh has allowed more goals than UC - in one less game. The Panthers have given up 16 goals while UC has given up 14 goals in 11 games.
Depth and Firepower:
- Head coach Michelle Salmon has noted that the 2010 squad is her deepest since she has been at UC.
- There are 11 midfielders, nine forwards, three defenders and two goalkeepers on the roster.
- Junior Emily Hebbeler, who was one of the team's top scoring threats in 2009, picked up where she left off, scoring two goals in the season opener.
- UC's Logan Ballinger (MF), who missed most of last season due to an injury, scored the game-winning goal at Bowling Green.
- Forward Kendall Loggins scored her first goal of 2010 at No. 16/23 Louisville. Two matches later, against DePaul, she scored her second goal of the season.
- The 2010 team captains are senior Sydney Barker, and juniors Logan Ballinger and Kay Young.
Challenging Schedule:
- Four of UC's opponents on the 2010 schedule were ranked in the NCAA Women's Division I Preseason Poll.
- UC is 1-2-0 against ranked teams this season, falling at No. 5/9 Notre Dame and at No. 16/23 Louisville.
- Cincinnati defeated No. 20 Wisconsin on the road, the second time in as many seasons that the Bearcats have knocked off a ranked opponent (winning 1-0 on 10/4/09 at No. 12 St. John's).
Last Time Out:
- Cincinnati scored first when Kendall Loggins found the back of the net in the 58th minute but DePaul bounced back and tied the game in the 77th minute.
- DePaul scored first in overtime, earning the conference win, 2-1.
Up Next:
- UC will host Georgetown and Villanova on Oct. 8 and 10, respectively.
- Cincinnati will take on Georgetown at 7 p.m. and Villanova at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
