VIDEO: Hadley talks about honor
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Freshman defender Alex Hadley (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) has been named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday (Oct. 4). Senior goalkeeper Matt Williams (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) was named to the weekly honor roll.
Hadley scored the game-winning goal in UC's 2-0 win against BIG EAST foe Rutgers on Oct. 2 in Gettler Stadium. After collecting a failed clearance attempt by the Scarlet Knights, Hadley blasted a right-footed rocket past RU keeper Adam Klink from the right corner of the 18-yard box for his first collegiate goal.
Hadley, a central defender, has been an integral part of UC's defense, which is currently ranked No. 4 in the nation, having conceded just three goals in nine matches for a goals-against average of 0.31.
Williams made six saves in leading the Bearcats to a 1-0-1 mark last week and extended his shutout streak to three matches and 367 minutes. The last goal allowed came in the 13th minute of UC's 1-0 loss at No. 1/1 Akron on Sept. 19. Williams has six shutouts on the season and has moved into sole possession of second place on the school's career shutouts list with 17 career clean sheets.
The Bearcats, holding opponents to a 0.31 goals-against average, rank No. 4 in the nation this week and Williams is also No. 4 nationally with the same 0.31 GAA.
UC steps out of conference play for a date with Michigan in Ann Arbor on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
