CINCINNATI - Alexis Scott (Duluth, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) scored her first career goal in dramatic fashion, leading the University of Cincinnati (8-6-1, 2-5 BIG EAST) women's soccer team to a 3-2 double overtime victory against visiting Villanova (6-9, 1-6 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at Gettler Stadium.
Scott's goal came in the 105th minute after Jazmine Rhodes (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Polytechnic) sprinted down field and crossed a low liner in front of the goal. Scott flicked the pass into the left corner of the net, securing the win for UC.
The Bearcats totally dominated the match offensively, outshooting the Wildcats 32-13. However, after the first half and with 10 minutes left in regulation UC was behind, 2-0. In the final 10 minutes Cincinnati dug deep and tied the match. Rhodes scored UC's first goal in the 82nd minute after Scott fed her a pass in the penalty box on the left side. With 52 seconds left on the clock, senior Kendall Loggins (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) stepped up to take a penalty shot after a Villanova player was caught for a hand ball in the box. Loggins sent the match into overtime with her third goal of the season in her final match at Gettler Stadium.
Neither team was able to score in the first overtime, but UC outshot the Wildcats, 3-0 in the period. It only took one shot in the second overtime for Cincinnati to find the back of the net and earn the win.
Ashley Daniels (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) was outstanding in goal for Cincinnati, finishing with seven saves. The Bearcats had 17 different players participate towards the victory, including senior Sydney Barker (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) who joined Loggins in a pregame ceremony on Senior Day.
UC plays next on the road in a 7 p.m. match on Friday, Oct. 15, against Marquette.
