CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 2/5 Louisville on Wednesday (Oct. 13) night at wet and dreary Gettler Stadium.

The Bearcats (5-4-3, 3-1-0 BIG EAST) lost for the first time in BIG EAST play and for the first time on home turf this season (4-1-2).

Louisville (9-0-2, 4-0-0 BIG EAST) got on top first when Charlie Campbell collected a failed clearance attempt in the UC box and drilled a shot into the far post for a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.

The Bearcats bounced back and pressed forward looking for the equalizer. It came in the 35th minute.

A corner kick was swung in from the far side and cleared out by the Louisville defense. Zach Patterson (Mason, Ohio/Mason) ran down the clearance at the top of the 18-yard box and served a pass back in. Matt Bahner (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) met the pass with a diving header for his fifth goal of the season to knot the match at one apiece.

The teams went to the lockerroom tied, but it was Louisville who came out of the break with the aggressive play.

In the 63rd minute, a defensive miscue allowed a pass from Colin Rolfe to reach Nick DeLeon streaking right up the middle of the field. Matt Williams (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) came off his line but DeLeon tucked a shot into the near post for a 2-1 lead for the Cardinals.

With the Bearcats pushed forward looking once again for a tying score, the Cardinals countered and earned a free kick just inside the endline on the far side. Paolo DelPiccio bent in a cross from near the corner flag, which was headed in by Campbell in the 73rd, his second goal of the match.

Louisville outshot the Bearcats, 13-7, including 8-3 in the decisive second half.

UC had allowed just five goals through the first 11 matches of the season before conceding a season-high three to the No. 2-ranked Cardinals.

Cincinnati will look to regroup when it takes on Seton Hall on Saturday, Oct. 16, in South Orange, N.J. Kickoff between the Bearcats and Pirates is set for 7 p.m.
