TERRA HAUTE, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati men's and women's cross country squads placed 25th and 35th, respectively, at the 2010 Pre-National Invitational, hosted by Indiana State University, on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Family Sports Center.
UC's Eric Finan covered the 8,000-meter course in 23:59.5 to lead UC's effort and place an impressive 13th. Tommy Morgan (80th/24:50.9) came home in second for UC. Oliver Book (160/25:41.1), David Barry (275/25:50.3), and Eric Hauser (282/26:09.8) provided the other scoring finishes.
Oklahoma won the men's team race after placing all five runners in the top-30 overall. Samuel Chelanga won the individual title after clocking 23:19.9 for the 8,000-meter course.
On the women's side, Michelle McKenney was the top UC finisher in 107th place. She timed in at 21:53.3. Lilian Jelimo (21:58.4) was 118th, Alison Zukowski (22:31.2) placed 180th, Katie Lewnard placed 227th (23:06.0), and Jill Glassmeyer (23:08.9) came home in 231st to close out the scoring.
Georgetown took top honors on the women's side, placing one runner in the top five and all five in the top-35. Lucy Van Dalen of Stony Brook clocked 20:08.1 to grab the top spot in the women's 6,000-meter event.
UC will return to action in the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships in Syracuse, N.Y. on Oct. 30, 2010.
