DAVIDSON, N.C. - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team finished in a tie for fourth place at the Davidson College Invitational on Tuesday (Oct. 19) afternoon at River Run Country Club.
Freshman Spencer Mellon (Oakmont, Pa./Central Catholic) led the Bearcats with a seventh-place finish. He posted a one over par 72-72-73=217, one shot behind sixth-place finisher Seth Stuart of College of Charleston.
Zach Bates (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) finished in a tie for 21st with rounds of 75-73-74=222. Andrew Desmarais (Union, Ky./Ryle) was tied for 27th, carding 75-76-73=224. Joe Kastelic (Newton, N.C./Fred T. Foard) tied for 33rd, one shot behind Desmarais, posting rounds of 78-74-73=225.
The Bearcats fired team rounds of 298=295=293=886 to finish in a tie with Guilford (293-290-303=886) for fourth.
Wofford won the team title with rounds of 296-280-293=869, followed by Western Carolina (293-296-293=882) and College of Charleston (302-286-295=883).
Wofford's Brent Whitehead posted a 71-70-71=212, four under par, to win medalist honors.
The Bearcats will open the spring portion of their schedule on Feb. 10 at the Match Play in Lutz, Fla.
