The Games:

  • Cincinnati plays the final two matches of the 2010 regular season on the road.
  • The first match is at Rutgers on Friday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 24, UC heads to Seton Hall, N.J. to play the Seton Hall Pirates at 1 p.m.
  • UC is coming off of two road losses while Rutgers is coming off a scoreless draw against St. John's. Seton Hall has not won since Sept. 24, against Villanova, but hosts Louisville on Friday, Oct. 22, before playing UC on Sunday.


Storylines and Notes:

  • After starting the season unbeaten in its first six games for the first time in school history, UC is now 8-8-1 overall and 2-7 in BIG EAST Conference action.
  • UC was ranked No. 19 and No. 15 in the Soccer America Women's Top 25 poll earlier this season, the first time since the 2002 season that UC cracked the Top 25.
  • Head coach Michelle Salmon is 26-25-5 in her three seasons at UC and is two wins away from her 100th career win (98-88-19) during her 11 years as a head coach.


Series History:

  • Cincinnati began its competition with Rutgers in 1993 at a neutral site. The Scarlet Knights lead the series, 5-2-1.
  • UC last defeated Rutgers in 2007, at Gettler Stadium, 2-1.
  • Cincinnati and Seton Hall played first in 2005, after the Bearcats joined the BIG EAST Conference.
  • The UC-SHU series is tied, 2-2-1, with Cincinnati winning the last two contests.


Awards and Honors:

  • Rachel Barnette was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Team of the Week for Monday Aug. 30 through Sunday Sept. 5 after back-to-back shutouts and six saves.
  • Kelli Pawelko was named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week #2.
  • Kelli Pawelko was twice named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week (8/30/10 and 9/6/10).
  • Pawelko scored the game-winner against No. 20 Wisconsin on Aug. 29.
  • Rachel Barnette was twice named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (8/30/10 and 9/6/10).
  • Barnette recorded four straight shutouts, the first time since the 2008 season that a UC goalkeeper recorded four consecutive shutouts.
  • Emily Hebbeler was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (8/23/10).
  • Hebbeler scored two goals against Morehead State, her first multi-goal game and UC's first since Sept. 13, 2009.


Did You Know:

  • Freshman Alexis Scott scored her first collegiate goal in double overtime against Villanova, recording the game-winner for the Bearcats.
  • Sophomore Ashley Daniels got her first start in goal against the Pittsburgh Panthers. Daniels earned the win and finished with 10 saves, tying her for the second most saves in a game in the BIG EAST Conference.
  • Freshman Jazmine Rhodes scored her first collegiate goal against Pittsburgh. Classmates Alexis Scott and Katie Greer each recorded their first collegiate points, serving up assists against the Panthers.
  • Several players got their first start in a Cincinnati uniform against Pittsburgh. Sophomore transfer Liz Miller, freshmen Katie Greer and Natalie Domanic, and sophomore Ashley Daniels each made their first start on the pitch for the Bearcats against the Panthers.
  • On Friday, Oct. 1, 493 fans showed up to watch Cincinnati take on West Virginia in the Breast Cancer Awareness match - the most fans at a UC match this season and the highest total since Sept. 25, 2009 when 647 fans came to watch UC take on No. 12 Notre Dame. UC has since eclipsed that season-high attendance total with 571 fans showing up on Friday, Oct. 8, against Georgetown.


Bearcat Bites:


Depth and Firepower:

  • Head coach Michelle Salmon has noted that the 2010 squad is her deepest since she has been at UC.
  • There are 11 midfielders, nine forwards, three defenders and three goalkeepers on the roster.
  • Junior Emily Hebbeler, who was one of the team's top scoring threats in 2009, picked up where she left off, scoring two goals in the season opener.
  • UC's Logan Ballinger (MF), who missed most of last season due to an injury, scored the game-winning goal at Bowling Green.
  • Forward Kendall Loggins scored her first goal of 2010 at No. 16/23 Louisville. Two matches later, against DePaul, she scored her second goal of the season. She wrapped up her final match at Gettler Stadium with the game-tying goal on a penalty kick with 52 seconds remaining against Villanova.
  • The 2010 team captains are senior Sydney Barker, and juniors Logan Ballinger and Kay Young.


Challenging Schedule:

  • Four of UC's opponents on the 2010 schedule were ranked in the NCAA Women's Division I Preseason Poll.
  • UC is 1-3-0 against ranked teams this season, falling at No. 5/9 Notre Dame, at No. 16/23 Louisville, and at No. 20 Marquette.
  • Cincinnati defeated No. 20 Wisconsin on the road, the second time in as many seasons that the Bearcats have knocked off a ranked opponent (winning 1-0 on 10/4/09 at No. 12 St. John's).


30 Years of UC Women's Soccer:

  • Cincinnati celebrated 30 years of varsity women's soccer the weekend of Oct. 1-3. A special evening for all former players occured on Saturday, Oct. 2, and included over 200 guests. A special documentary video was presented detailing the progress UC women's soccer has made over the last 30 years. On Sunday, Oct. 3, all former players in attendance were honored at halftime of the match against Pittsburgh.


Last Time Out:

  • Cincinnati lost, 1-0, at the University of South Florida in a BIG EAST Conference match on Sunday at USF Soccer/Track and Field Stadium.
  • UC was outshot, 21-5, for the match and the Bulls held an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.
  • Jazmine Rhodes took three of UC's five shots. Ashley Daniels played the entire 90 minutes in goal, finishing with 10 saves.
  • On Friday Cincinnati lost, 4-0, at Marquette University. UC took the first three shots of the match but Marquette put pressure on and finished out the half with five shots.
  • The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard in the 42nd minute off of a corner kick.
  • The Golden Eagles turned up its offensive attack in the second half, scoring three goals. Marquette scored in the 52nd and 54th minute. MU finished its scoring in the 81st minute.
  • Ashley Daniels finished with seven saves in goal for the Bearcats. Jazmine Rhodes had three of UC's four shots for the match.
