PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Cincinnati senior Matt Williams (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced today (Oct. 25).

Williams helped the Bearcats (6-4-5, 4-1-2 BIG EAST) to two big points this week as the BIG EAST regular season inches closer to an end.

UC played No. 19/19 USF to a 1-1 draw on Oct. 20 in Gettler Stadium, with Williams making nine saves against the third-place Bulls. The Bearcats then traveled to Villanova, who sat in a second-place tie with UC entering the match. The redshirt senior netminder made five saves to post his eighth shutout of the season in UC's 0-0 draw on the road.

Williams has played brilliantly all season, holding a 0.63 goals-against average and an .846 save percentage, which rank 15th and 18th, respectively, in the nation.

This is the second Goalkeeper of the Week award for Williams. He earned the honor on Oct. 20, 2008, after posting shutouts in UC wins against Alabama A&M and Rutgers.

Williams is second in school history with 19 career shutouts and his 0.63 GAA this season would set a program record (0.72 - John Adams, 2003).

The Bearcats, having secured a spot in the BIG EAST Championship, travel to DePaul to take on the Blue Demons on Oct. 27 before returning home for the regular season finale on Oct. 30 against Syracuse.
