CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati junior linebacker J.K. Schaffer (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) was named the College of Engineering & Applied Sciences Student-Athlete of the Month for October, 2010.

Schaffer maintains a 3.73 GPA in psychology with a focus on criminal justice out of the College of Arts and Sciences.

"I'm a Cincinnati guy, so it means a ton to me" Schaffer said of being a student-athlete. "I love being in this city and just doing what I can to make the city proud and the university proud."

Schaffer currently ranks third in the BIG EAST Conference in tackles, averaging 8.6 stops per game. He has a team-high 60 stops in seven games, along with 2.5 tackles for a loss, two passes defended, an interception, and a pass break up. Schaffer totaled a career-best 16 tackles at NC State and had 13 tackles against No. 8/9 Oklahoma.

UC (3-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) returns to the field Saturday, taking on BIG EAST Conference rival Syracuse (5-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) at noon inside Nippert Stadium. The annual Homecoming game will be televised by ESPNU. Tickets are still available by calling 1-877-CATS-TIX or visiting CATSTIX.com.
