ANN ARBOR, Mich - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Michigan on Wednesday night (Oct. 6) at the UM Soccer Stadium.

The Bearcats (4-3-3) gave up their first goal in four matches, having last conceded against No. 1/1 Akron on Sept. 19.

"We are very disappointed with the result," said head coach Hylton Dayes. "We were not sharp defensively tonight. Giving up an early goal off a restart was not the way we wanted to start, but we settled down."

Michigan (6-2-3) tallied in the 16th minute when Fabio Pereira sent a free kick into the box, where Justin Meran headed a shot past Matt Williams (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) for his fourth goal of the season.

The Bearcats created several scoring chances, but a defensive lapse in the 61st opened the door for the Wolverines and they capitalized.

Alex Wood sent a pass into the offensive zone and Matt Schmitt ran onto the ball and beat Williams for a 2-0 lead.

"We did not give up and fought to the end, hitting the post and having a goal disallowed on an offsides call," Dayes continued. "We now have to regroup and prepare for a very good St. John's team on Saturday."

UC had allowed just three goals in nine matches entering the contest and ranked No. 4 in the nation with a 0.31 goals-against average.

The Bearcats outshot the Wolverines, 15-6, but were unable to crack the scoring column for the fourth time in the last six matches.

UC will travel to Queens, N.Y., to take on No. 22/22 St. John's on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at Belson Stadium.
