CINCINNATI - Liz Hansson won three races and Josefin Wede won a pair of events helping to lead the women's squad to a 162-130 win over West Virginia, Saturday at the Keating Aquatics Center.

The men's squad fell to the Mountaineers by a 195-101 margin despite picking up two event wins from Nathan Williams.

On the women's side, the 200-medley relay quartet of Erin Frye, Stephanie Conklin, Laurie Caudy, and Bailey Laban opened up the meet with a first-place clocking of 1:48.42. Anna Bersani, Victoria Jacumski, Brittany Grone, and Alicia Berman placed third in the race with their effort of 1:50.01.

Hansson and Frye took the top two spots in the 100 backstroke. Hansson grabbed first place with her swim of 57.98 and Frye was behind her in 59.45. Laban and Bree Rossi went 2-3 in the 200 freestyle, with times of 1:55.84 and 1:56.86, respectively.

Wede, Jacumski, and Conklin swept the podium in the 100 breaststroke. Wede took first in 1:06.78, Jacumski second ain 1:06.87, and Conklin in third at 1:07.09.

Caudy and Grone clocked 2:05.84 and 2:09.99, respectively, earning the second and third spots in the 200 butterfly. Race winner Mandie Nugent from WVU set a KAC pool record with her time of 2:02.55.

Hansson grabbed her second event win of the afternoon in the 50 freestyle. She clocked 24.23 to earn the top spot. Freshman Sammie Wheeler was third in 25.22.

Brittany Teneyck scored 277.58 points to win the 1-meter diving event and added a win in the 3-meter event with her score of 285.68.

Laban also added a second place finish in the 100 freestyle, clocking 53.12 in her race.

Hansson won the 200 backstroke for her third win of the day. She clocked 2:04.47 to win the race by almost three seconds.

Wede, Jacumski, and Conklin swept the top three spots for the second time in the 200 breaststroke. Wede again took the win in 2:22.04, Jacumski was second in 2:24.04, and Conklin third with a time of 2:24.26.

Wede placed second in the 200 IM with her time of 2:09.65 and Jacumski was on her heels in third with a clocking of 2:11.81.

On the men's side, the Bearcats opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay. The team of Brandon Metzler, Miller, Roberto Nevarez, and Robby Walsh clocked 1:36.56.

Williams picked up his first win, taking the 1,650 freestyle in 15:53.42. Stephen Cunningham was second with an effort of 16:16.13 for the mile.

Nate Kramer was second in the 200 freestyle with his clocking of 1:43.99. Metzler took second in the 100 backstroke with his effort of 53.66.

Miller and Britton Van Dissel were 2-3 in the 100 breaststroke, swimming times of 59.90 and 1:00.07, respectively.

Miller earned the top spot in the 200 breaststroke, clocking 2:08.32 for the win. Mike Whipkey was third with a 2:12.82.

Williams had his second win the 500 freestyle, timing in at 4:34.62 to lead teammate Cunningham who was third in 4:42.91.

Miller and Whipkey finished 2-3 in the 200 IM with clockings of 1:58.63 and 2:01.02, respectively.

The 800 freestyle relay squad of Cunningham, Kramer, Williams, and Chris Hale placed second with a time of 6:57.44, just behind the WVU winning time of 6:57.26. Hale and WVU's Hugh Simmonds had a nice dual on the final leg, with the Mountaineers gaining the edge in the final yards of the race.

The Bearcats return to action at the Purdue Invitation from Nov. 19-21 in West Lafayette, Ind.
