CINCINNATI - Senior guard Shareese Ulis (Toledo, Ohio/Trinity Valley C.C.) scored 18 points to lead the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team to a 61-42 win against North Florida on Sunday (Nov. 14) afternoon at Fifth Third Arena.
Ulis had 15 points in the first half and added 3 rebounds and three assists to lift the Bearcats (2-0) to their second win of the season.
Chanel Chisolm (Long Island, N.Y./Vanderbilt) and Bjonee Reaves (San Bernardino, Calif./Neosho County) added eight points apiece and Kayla Cook (South Webster, Ohio/South Webster) and Shelly Bellman (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) chipped in seven points each as eight different Bearcats scored in the contest.
UC outrebounded the Ospreys, 42-31, led by Jeanise Randolph (Calumet City, Illinois/Thornton Fractional North) and Cook, who grabbed eight boards each.
UC fell behind early, 10-2, but responded with a 23-7 run over the next 13 minutes to take an eight-point lead, 25-17, with 3:30 to go in the first. UC took a 32-22 lead into the half.
The Bearcats lead hovered between eight and 12 points until back-to-back threes by Ulis and Reaves followed by a Reaves steal and layup pushed the margin to 21 with 3:36 to go, 59-38.
Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) hit a short jumper to give UC a 23-point advantage with under two minutes to go and the Bearcats dribbled out the clock on the final possession to move to 2-0 on the season.
The Bearcats are again in action on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 2:00 p.m. against Robert Morris. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Ohio.
