CINCINNATI - Eric Finan, a junior on the University of Cincinnati cross country team, has been named the NCAA Great Lakes region's Athlete of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Wednesday.
The New Richmond, Ohio native won the Great Lakes Regional on Saturday, Nov. 13, by three seconds after emerging from a 15-runner pack to sprint to the finish. He was seventh earlier this fall in the Big East Championships and 13th at the Pre-National Invitational.
Finan's win at the regional automatically qualified him for a berth at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Monday, Nov. 22, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
The women's race will begin at approximately 12:08 p.m. EST, followed by the men's race at approximately 12:48 p.m.
A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from noon to 1:30 p.m. EST on NCAA.com. In addition, highlights from the championships will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show, scheduled to air on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 1-2 p.m. EST.
