CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's track and field team volunteered with the local nonprofit Girls on the Run of Cincinnati for a 5k race on Saturday, Nov. 20 at Sawyer Park.
Girls on the Run of Cincinnati is a character development program for third through eighth grade girls in the Greater Cincinnati area. The organization uses exercise, positive reinforcement and encouraging role models to provide girls with the confidence they need in their preteen years.
The annual 5k race was the culmination of a 12-week program in which local girls learned healthy lifestyles and how to develop self-respect. The UC women's track and field team helped with warm up and stretches, signed autographs, and cheered on the runners throughout the race.
Olympic Gold Medalist, former Bearcat, and current UC track and field assistant coach Mary Wineberg was also on hand at the event to speak to the runners before the race.
