CINCINNATI - Shareese Ulis (Toledo, Ohio/Trinity Valley C.C.) scored 16 points to lead all scorers and the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team topped Northern Kentucky, 57-55, in overtime in exhibition play in Fifth Third Arena on Saturday (Nov. 6).

Ulis shot just 5-of-19, but hit a pair of threes and 4-of-4 from the free throw line to lead four Bearcats in double figures.

Freshman Kayla Cook (South Webster, Ohio/South Webster) had 13, including a pair of free throws with 41 seconds to play in overtime that gave UC a 56-54 lead.

Daress McClung (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) scored 11 and grabbed six rebounds and Chanel Chisholm (Long Island, N.Y./Vanderbilt) chipped in 10 points and six boards for the Bearcats.

After falling behind by as much as six points in the first half, UC stormed back and took a four-point lead at 19-15 with 5:51 to go on a Ulis triple.

A 10-4 run for the Norse gave NKU a 25-23 lead before Chisholm's layup with nine seconds left tied it at 25 going into the break.

A steal and layup for Ulis gave Cincinnati a 36-31 lead with 15:31 to play in the second half, but NKU responded and tied it at 36 on a Jaimie Hamlet three.

The teams traded baskets until a 6-2 spurt for UC, capped by a Cook layup, gave the Bearcats a 50-44 lead with 5:10 to go.

Again, Northern Kentucky responded, reeling off eight straight points to go up 52-50 with 2:00 remaining.

A pair of Ulis free throws tied it up and sent the game to overtime.

A McClung layup and two Cook free throws pushed UC's lead to 56-54 with 41 seconds. Freshman Jeanise Randolph (Calumet, Ill./Thornton Fractional North) stepped to the forefront with a huge block on a driving layup by Kayla Thacker. Randolph then grabbed a strong defensive rebound and sank a free throw to give the Bearcats a 57-54 edge.

Thacker knocked down one of two free throws for the final 57-55 margin.

Randolph finished with five points and five rebounds in her first collegiate action.
