Bearcat Friday Winner Announced!

December 3, 2010

The University of Cincinnati celebrates yesterday's Bearcat Friday winner.

The University of Cincinnati Athletic Department developed a way for businesses and campus offices around the country to join in on the fun and show their pride for the University. Bearcats Fridays is scheduled to run throughout the year.

This week's BEARCAT FRIDAY WINNER IS THE ALOIS ALZHEIMER CENTER! The BEARCAT mascot visited the Alois Alzheimer Center yesterday to mingle with the staff and residents.

The Alois Alzheimer Center opened in 1987 as the first specialized facility dedicated to the care and treatment of Alzheimer's disease in the United States. The Alois Alzheimer Center was developed because of a strong belief that individuals with Alzheimer's disease and dementia deserve a full and happy life, provided by special programs and environments to enhance function and experience a good quality of life. Despite the progressive nature of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, a person's independence, ability to function and quality of life can be improved through specially designed programs that create a sense of belonging, accomplishment, camaraderie, and fun. The specialized resident programs designed and implemented by the Center include creative care techniques, methods of management that significantly decrease difficult behaviors, a special physical environment that promotes optimum functioning, and life enrichment programs. Staff selection and training, activities, programs and therapeutic outdoor gardens provide an environment where residents, regardless of disease stage, can succeed and achieve, and where they find a sense of belonging and companionship, friendship and fun.

Mary Finn stated, "Residents, staff and families loved the Bearcat! Many residents and staff have ties to the University of Cincinnati as alumni themselves, or as one family mentioned students past and present in their families. We love UC and are grateful for the Bearcat's visit today!"

The Alois Alzheimer Center offers a continuum of care, including an adult day program, respite stays, assisted living and intermediate and nursing care. The Center also serves as a source of knowledge, known throughout the United States for sharing our expertise and what we have learned through education, research, publications, and national and international meetings.
