DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team dropped a 70-59 decision at Dayton on Dec. 2 in UD Arena.
Kayla Cook (South Webster, Ohio/South Webster) led the Bearcats (5-1) with 15 points and was joined in double figures by Shareese Ulis (Toledo, Ohio/Trinity Valley C.C.) with 14 and Bjonee Reaves (San Bernardino, Calif./Neosho County) with 10.
Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) scored nine points and added eight rebounds in UC's first defeat of the season.
The Bearcats trailed for the first time this season at the half, 28-24. Ulis scored eight first-half points and Cook added seven.
Dayton extended its halftime lead with a 10-0 run over the first four minutes of the second stanza, taking a 38-24 lead. A Turner three-point play stopped the bleeding and started the Bearcats on the comeback trail.
Reaves knocked down a three with 9:29 to play to cut the Flyer lead to 48-45. Brittany Wilson answered with a triple, but Cook hit a three on the next UC possession to cut it to three again.
Turner's layup at the 6:33 mark made it a two-point game, 54-52, but that was as close as the Bearcats would get. UC kept it close down the stretch and trailed by just four with three minutes to go, 61-57.
Dayton opened its lead up on free throws in the closing minutes.
Kristin Daugherty led the Flyers with 16 points, while Wilson added 14 for Dayton, which improved to 4-3 on the season.
The Bearcats will host the 2010 Skyline Chili Women's Crosstown Shootout on Sunday, Dec. 5, against No. 4/4 Xavier in Fifth Third Arena. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
