CINCINNATI - The 2010-11 University of Cincinnati women's basketball schedule will feature matchups with some of college basketball's elite, including 10 versus 2010 NCAA Tournament qualifiers.
Second-year head coach Jamelle Elliott's Bearcats will host defending national champion Connecticut as well as crosstown rival Xavier, who advanced to the Elite Eight in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
The Bearcats open the 2010-11 season on Nov. 6 with an exhibition contest against Northern Kentucky, which made its fifth straight NCAA Division II tournament appearance last season.
The regular-season opener is slated for Nov. 12 against Southwest Baptist on Elementary School Day with a special tip time of 11 a.m. The Bearcats will then welcome North Florida (Nov. 14), Robert Morris (Nov. 21), and Mount St. Mary's (Nov. 23) before facing its first road contest at Valparaiso on Nov. 28.
UC will then renew its rivalry with regional foe Dayton on Dec. 2 at UD Arena before returning to Fifth Third Arena for the annual rivalry game against Xavier on Dec. 5. UC has won two of the last three games against the Musketeers, who are coming off a trip to the 2010 NCAA Elite Eight.
UC then hosts rival Louisville in a rare early BIG EAST Conference game on Dec. 15.
A pair of pre-Christmas games against Wright State (Dec. 18) and Marshall (Dec. 21) follow the conference opener.
Following the holiday break, the Bearcats will travel to southern California for the Maggie Dixon Surf `N Slam Classic hosted by San Diego. UC will take on Texas on Dec. 28 and either Hofstra or the host Toreros on Dec. 30.
The Bearcats wrap up non-conference action with another local rival, Miami (OH), on Jan. 2.
BIG EAST play opens in earnest on Jan. 5 with a two-game road trip where the Bearcats will battle USF and West Virginia (Jan. 8).
A home contest against 2010 NCAA qualifier Rutgers is slated for Jan. 15 followed by another two-game road swing where UC will take on St. John's (Jan. 18) and renew its rivalry with Louisville (Jan. 22).
Back-to-back home contests against NCAA squads follow as UC will welcome DePaul to Fifth Third Arena on Jan. 25. The Bearcats then entertain defending national champion Connecticut in Elliott's first home contest against her former team. She spent 12 years as an assistant coach at UConn after her stellar four-year playing career was finished with the Huskies.
Trips to Pittsburgh (Feb. 1), Georgetown (Feb. 5), Villanova (Feb. 15), and Notre Dame (Feb. 26) wrap up the road portion of the schedule.
Home matchups with Seton Hall (Feb. 12), Providence (Feb. 19), Syracuse (Feb. 22), and Marquette (Feb. 28) round out the 2010-11 slate.
The 2011 BIG EAST Championship will take place from March 4-8 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
