Here's a look at what's coming up this week in UC sports:

  • The men's basketball team will kick off the New Year with the annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout against rival Xavier at 7 p.m. Thursday at Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats lead the all-time series 47-30, but Xavier has won the last three years in a row. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and on the radio on 700 WLW. Cincinnati will then take on No. 8 Villanova at Noon Sunday in Philadelphia, Pa. This game will be televised on Fox Sports Ohio/BIG EAST Network, and on the radio on 700 WLW. UC is 14-0 (2-0 BIG EAST).
  • The women's basketball team will take on USF at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Tampa, Fla. The Bearcats will then take on No. 6 West Virginia at 4 p.m. Saturday in Morgantown, W.Va. Cincinnati is 7-6 (0-1 BIG EAST).
  • After a one month layoff, the indoor track and field team will return to action on Friday at the Akron Opener. The five-team field will include the Bearcats and host Zips, along with Buffalo, Louisville and Michigan.

In case you missed it:

  • The undefeated men's basketball team toppled DePaul in its BIG EAST opener last Tuesday, 76-60, at Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats then beat Seton Hall, 70-53, last Friday, also at Fifth Third Arena. Cincinnati's season-opening win streak is the longest for Cincinnati (14-0) since the 1998-99 team opened 15-0. The win streak is the Bearcats' longest in any one season since the 2001-02 team won 20 straight. UC is 2-0 in BIG EAST play for the second season in a row.
  • The women's basketball team fell 80-77, on a last-second three-pointer against Texas in the first round of the Maggie Dixon Surf `N Slam Classic last Tuesday in San Diego, Calif. The Bearcats went on to defeat Hofstra 65-63 in the consolation final of the tournament on Thursday. UC came home to host Miami (Ohio) last Sunday, but fell 65-56.
  • The football staff, in conjunction with the 1200 Club and UCATS announced an exclusive fan dinner for Signing Day 2011, set to take place on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 at 6 p.m. at the Kingsgate Marriott and Conference Center. Fans will have the opportunity to meet UC head coach Butch Jones and his staff, participate in a silent auction, and get an inside look at the 2011 UC football signing class. Tickets to the event are $75 per person, including dinner and parking. Tables of eight are available for $550. All funds raised will benefit the UC football program.
