CINCINNATI - Laurie Caudy, Liz Hansson, Haywood Miller, and Nathan Williams each snagged a pair of event wins, but it was not enough as the University of Cincinnati swimming and diving squad dropped a pair of dual meets to the Miami (OH) University RedHawks, Friday at the Keating Aquatics Center.
The men's team dropped a 165-113 decision while the women's squad fell 175.5-125.5 to the visitors.
The 200-yard medley relay squad of Erin Frye, Stephanie Conklin, Kinsey Kowalski, and Hansson placed second with a time of 1:47.13, just off Miami's first-place clocking of 1:45.46.
The men's A quartet of Brandon Metzler, Haywood Miller, Robby Walsh, and Seth Poitinger placed third in its heat with a time of 1:36.54.
Nathan Williams and Nate Kramer placed 1-2 in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle with times of 9:30.87 and 9:40.45, respectively. Katie Nemann was second in the women's race with her effort of 10:31.88.
Stephen Cunningham clocked 1:42.75 to take first place in the 200 freestyle. Bailey Laban and Kowalski placed 2-3 in the women's race, with times of 1:55.12 and 1:56.90, respectively.
In the next race Hansson timed in at 57.64 for her first event win of the night in the 100 backstroke. Frye took third in 1:00.09. Joe Scherpenberg had a 54.37 effort in the men's race to place third.
Miller and Britton Van Dissel clocked 58.69 and 59.90, respectively, to place first and second in the men's 100 backstroke. Sammie Wheeler placed third on the women's side with her time of 1:06.04.
Laurie Caudy grabbed first in the women's 200 butterfly, timing in at 2:03.62. Williams was second in the men's race with his effort of 1:55.50.
Laban (24.57) and Roberto Nevarez (21.66) both placed third in the 50 freestyle.
Brittany Teneyck scored a total of 319.05 points to take the top spot in the women's 1-meter diving event. Lindsay Bakan (281.63) placed third.
Laban took top honors in the women's 100 freestyle with her time of 52.99 while Nevarez grabbed second in the men's 100 with his effort of 47.21.
Hansson earned her second win in the 200 backstroke, clocking 2:04.68 for the victory. Scherpenberg swam a time of 1:55.76 to win a close race to the line in the men's 200 back event.
Miller grabbed his second win of the night in the men's 200 breaststroke, clocking 2:06.25 for the victory. Van Dissel was third in 2:12.14 while Wheeler took third in the women's race with her time of 2:23.97.
Williams swept the distance events with his time of 4:37.51 in the men's 500 freestyle. Cunningham grabbed second place with his effort of 4:38.13. Amanda Hardewig placed third in the women's race with her time of 5:13.67.
Caudy earned her second event win of the night with her 56.80 effort in the women's 100 butterfly. Nevarez completed the UC sweep after taking first in the men's race with a time of 51.18.
Kirtley Krombholz tallied 350.93 points to take the top spot in the women's 3-meter diving event.
Miller and Kramer finished 2-3 in the men's 400 individual medley. Miller clocked 4:07.84 and Kramer timed in at 4:16.50.
The women's quartet of Hansson, Caudy, Wheeler, and Laban clocked 1:35.65 to take top honors in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Kowalski, Alicia Berman, Frye, and Anna Bersani timed in at 1:39.77 to place third in the race.
The men's team of Robby Walsh, Poitinger, Nevarez, and Williams had a time of 1:27.10 to close out the night with a second-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay.
The Bearcats are back in action Saturday, heading to Louisville to take on the BIG EAST Conference rival Cardinals at 2 p.m.
