Over the past weekend, the UC Cheer and Dance teams participated in the 2011 UCA/UDA College Championship - an event featuring countless spirit programs from across the country and all levels of collegiate athletics. The Championships, held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports on the grounds of Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, witnessed the best grouping of collegiate cheerleaders and dancers as each team battled for the chance to be crowned a National Champion.
After a Saturday filled with intense action, both the Cheer and Dance teams earned spots in the Division 1A final rounds for their respective routines. Dance would go on to perform in the finals of both the Hip Hop routines (where they won the gold medal in 2009) and the Pom finals. After performing their routines a second time, the UC Dance Team would finish the 2011 competition in second in both the Hip Hop and Pom divisions, adding to an impressive list of achievements for the UC Dance Team.
The UC Cheerleading team set a goal before the competition began to make the final round of the best collegiate cheerleaders in the country. After Saturday's performance, they were successful in achieving their mission as they secured a spot in the final round on Sunday evening and put on a great performance for all of their fans in attendance.
Tabby Fagan, UC Cheerleading Head Coach, and Lisa Spears, UC Dance Team Head Coach, are extremely proud of their team's accomplishments and the determination that each team member showed during the competition. Brad Wurthman, UC's Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Fan Development, who was in attendance at the National Championships, stated that "The student-athletes on our cheer and dance teams are fantastic representatives of the University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics. We are unbelievably proud of their accomplishments and look forward to their continued success against some of the best programs in the country".
