GAMBIER, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati women's swimming and diving team tallied 549 points to take the top spot at the Kenyon Quad meet, Saturday on the second day of competition at the Kenyon Aquatic Center.

The women held off Oakland University (507) and finished ahead of Kenyon (490), and Ashland University (164). The men's squad placed fourth with 190.5 points. Oakland (672) took the top spot, followed by Kenyon (525), and Ashland (200.5).

The 200-yard medley relay group of Erin Frye, Stephanie Conklin, Laurie Caudy, and Bailey Laban took second place with a time of 1:48.35.

Nathan Williams swam a time of 4:36.12 to earn a second-place finish in the men's 500 freestyle.

Caudy clocked 57.69 in the women's 100 butterfly, taking third place, just off the winning time of 57.23. Roberto Nevarez was third in the men's race, timing it at 51.09, on the heels of the 50.72 first-place time.

Kirtley Krombholz placed second in the womens 3-meter diving event, tallying 323.80 points.

Liz Hansson placed second in a close race in the women's 100 backstroke. Hansson clocked 58.70, just off the winning time of 58.66. She came back to win the next event, the women's 100 freestyle, with a time of 51.96. It was her third individual event win of the meet.

Sammie Wheeler swam a time of 1:06.06 in the women's 100 breaststroke to place second.

Josefin Wede won the women's 400 IM by almost five seconds, clocking 4:25.86 for the victory. Nathan Williams was fourth in the men's race with his effort of 4:10.94.

The quartet of Hansson, Bree Rossi, Laban, and Wheeler clocked 1:37.40 to close out the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The men's group of Birtton van Dissel, Haywood Miller, Daniel Oldham, and Nate Kramer place eighth in their race, clocking 1:29.23.

The Bearcats are back in the pool next weekend, closing out the home schedule with a tri-meet against Kentucky and Virginia Tech. Action gets underway at the Keating Aquatics Center at 11 a.m. with diving. Swimming events are set to run at 1 p.m. Admission for all fans is free.

UC will honor its 2011 senior class during pre-meet ceremonies. On the women's side, UC will honor Lindsay Bakan, Caudy, Maggie Eubanks, Krombholz, Erin Mullins, Rossi, Melody Smith, and Brittany Teneyck. The men's senior class consists of Stephen Cunningham, Kramer, Brandon Metzler, Van Dissel, Mike Whipkey, and Williams.
