CINCINNATI - Shareese Ulis (Toledo, Ohio/Trinity Valley C.C.) scored a team-high 18 points but the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team dropped a 67-48 decision to No. 12/17 DePaul at Fifth-Third Arena on Tuesday night.
Ulis shot 7-of-18 from the floor and knocked down two threes, marking 21 straight games that she has scored a three-point basket. She also went 2-for-2 from the foul line and has hit on 30 of her last 35 attempts from the charity stripe for the Bearcats (8-11, 1-6 BIG EAST).
Sam Quigley scored a game-high 23 points for the Blue Demons (20-2, 7-0), hitting on 7-of-12 from three-point range.
Cincinnati cut the DePaul lead to seven, but the Blue Demons led at halftime 35-17 after a 13-2 scoring run that started with 3:36 left in the half and ended with a Quigley half-court heave that swished through the net at the halftime buzzer.
Quigley led all scorers in the first half with 15 points.
DePaul pushed its lead to a game-high 29 points with 5:42 left but a layup by Bjonee Reaves (San Bernardino, Calif./Neosho County) started an 8-0 run by the Bearcats to close out the contest.
The Bearcats and the Blue Demons both shot 38 percent from the field for the game, but DePaul made it count from the three-point line, knocking down 10 triples.
Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) again led the Bearcats in rebounding, posting nine caroms, helping UC to a 40-39 advantage on the glass. Katherine Harry grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for DePaul.¬ The Bearcats outscored the taller Blue Demons, 28-26, in the paint.
Jeanise Randolph (Calumet City, Ill./Thornton Fractional North) tallied seven points and eight rebounds while Shelly Bellman (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) posted eight points, two rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
The Bearcats are next in action at home on Saturday, Jan. 29, against No. 2/2 Connecticut with a 2 p.m. tipoff time.
