The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team will take on a familiar foe in the third round of the NCAA Championship. The Bearcats, seeded sixth in the West Region will battle third-seeded Connecticut on Saturday, March 19, at approximately 9:40 p.m. in the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

  • Cincinnati is making its first NCAA Championship appearance since 2005, and won its opening game of the NCAA Championship for the third consecutive time (2004, 2005, 2011).
  • The win over Missouri came six years to the day since the Bearcats' last tournament win, a 76-64 victory against Iowa on March 17, 2005.
  • Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin won his first NCAA tournament game in three tries (1-2). Cronin lost firstround games in 2004 and 2006 as the head coach at Murray State.
  • UC is 14-0 against non-BIG EAST teams this season.
  • UC's 26th win marks the most for the program since the 2001-02 season, in which the Bearcats finished 31-4.
  • Cincinnati improved to 25-0 this season when leading at halftime. The Bearcats led 39-28 at halftime.
  • Cincinnati junior Yancy Gates recorded an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double, his seventh double-double of the season and 14th of his career. Gates made both of his three-point attempts, a new career high, after making just three career three-pointers his previous 99 games.
