CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team got a hat trick from attacker Laura Simanski for the second-straight game, but it was not enough as No. 7 Stanford defeated the Bearcats 20-8 in non-conference action at Nippert Stadium Tuesday.
Simanski, who has scored seven goals in the last two games, had all three of her tallies in the first half, adding to her 10-game scoring streak, which dates back to April 25, 2010.
Stanford (7-0) won its seventh-straight game, converting seven free-position shots and holding a 40-19 shot advantage over Cincinnati (2-5).
Along with Simanksi's hat trick, Kylie Ramsland tallied a pair of goals, while Kelsey Conway, MacKenzie Parsons, and Marissa Pierson each added single tallies. Katie Libertore had an assist.
Ahead 9-5 at the break, Stanford added to its lead by scoring five goals in the opening seven minutes of the second half, moving the margin to 14-5 with 23:22 remaining. UC added three goals, but could not get the offense going to match the Cardinal.
Stanford's Sarah Flynn led all players with five goals. The Cardinal's Lauren Schmidt added four while Cincinnati native Leslie Foard scored three, Maria Fortino, Anna Kim, and Rachel Ozer added two apiece while Anna Boeri and Cincinnati native Karen Nesbitt added single goals.
The Cardinal scored three times in the game's opening minutes before Simanski got the Bearcats on the board with a free-position shot at 20:33. Cincy pulled the margin back within one at 5-4 with 13:07 to play, after tallies by Simanski, Ramsland, and Parsons.
The Bearcats surrendered four free-position shots over the next four-plus minutes and Stanford led 9-4 before Simanski's heads up goal after a long run with two seconds left made the halftime score 9-5 in favor of the visitors.
UC heads back on the road for a pair of games later this week; taking on Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Thursday, March 24 at 3 p.m., before opening up BIG EAST Conference play against Louisville on Sunday, March 27 at 1 p.m.
