PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a 15-6 road decision at Duquesne, Thursday at Rooney Field.
Laura Simanski had a pair of goals while Maddie Fink, Katie Libertore, MacKenzie Parsons, and Kylie Ramsland each added single tallies. Libertore and Parsons each had an asssist.
UC (2-6) held a 14-11 advantage in ground balls and just trailed on draw controls 11-10. Duqeuesne (6-2) had a 26-15 advantage on shots. Parsons had five draw controls for the Bearcats, leading all players.
Fink got the Bearcats on the board first, tallying a goal with 26:44 remaining in the half. From there, the Dukes added six-straight before Simanski scored on a free-position shot with 7:04 left to make the score 6-2 Duquesne. The Dukes added two more goals in the final 4:12 of the half to make the score 8-2 at the break.
Duquesne added six goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, making the margin 12 with 14-plus minutes to go.
Parsons got one back for UC at the 13:30 mark, but a Dukes goal with seven minutes remaining had the lead back to 12 at 15-3. Simanski, Libertore, and Ramsland all scored in the final five minutes of the game to make the final score 15-6 in favor of the home team.
Meredith Dunn led the Dukes with four goals and an assist, followed by Katie Rekart and Cailin Colegrove with three goals apiece.
The Bearcats open up BIG EAST Conference play at Louisville on Sunday, March 27 at 1 p.m.
