QUEENS, N.Y. - Freshman OF/DH Justin Glass (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) hit 2-for-3 with a home run in a losing effort as the University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to St. John's University 9-4 on Saturday at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
Facing an 8-0 deficit in the eighth inning, sophomore outfielder Jake Proctor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) gave Cincinnati its first run with an RBI-single. Two batters later, Glass belted a 3-run home run to right field to make the score 8-4. The home run is the second of the season for Glass.
Cincinnati sophomore RHP Andrew Strenge (Yardley, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) was effective early, holding St. John's scoreless through the first four innings, but suffered from control problems for most of his outing. In 5.1 innings pitched, Strenge allowed five runs and walked five batters while striking out four.
St. John's scored its first runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth with a bases-loaded walk, followed by a wild pitch that allowed a runner from third base to score.
The Bearcats gave up six runs in the sixth inning to put themselves in an 8-0 hole. The rally began with a 2-RBI single up the middle of the infield by SJU catcher Joe Witkowski, who advanced to second base on a passed ball and then scored on a UC outfield error. St. John's scored three more runs in the sixth on a bases-clearing double from LF Jeremy Baltz.
The Bearcats and Red Storm wrap up their three-game series with a noon ET game on Sunday at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
