CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to Youngstown State University 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday at Marge Schott Stadium.

One game after the Bearcats scored 13 runs in a win over the Penguins on Saturday, runs were at a premium as UC's Andrew Strenge (Yardley, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) and YSU's Kevin McCulloh both produced strong pitching performances.

Strenge had his most dominant outing of the season after he allowed no earned runs in seven innings pitched and struck out five.

In the top of the second inning, Youngstown State scored two unearned runs after an infield error with two outs extended the inning.

Those two runs proved to be enough for the Penguins after McCulloh went six innings, allowing just one run.

Cincinnati's lone run came in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior shortstop Chris Peters (Tipp City, Ohio/Tipp City) hit an RBI single to left field to pull UC within one run at 2-1.

The Bearcats had an opportunity to tie the score in the sixth inning after Braden Kline (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community) and Matt Williams (Mason, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian) both singled, but with next two batters flied out and popped up to end the inning.

Cincinnati plays a rubber match against Youngstown State in game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader at approximately 3:40 p.m. ET.
