COLUMBIA, Mo. - Behind five consistent performances, the University of Cincinnati men's golf team finished in an eigth-place tie at the Columbia Orthopedic Group Mizzou Intercollegiate on Tuesday, April 5, at the Club at Old Hawthorne.
All five of UC's golfers finished within nine shots of one another and the top four finishers all shot between 235 and 237.
Sophomore Zack Bates (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) posted rounds of 88-73-74=235 to finish tied for 30th, while classmate Andrew Desmarais (Union, Ky./Ryle) was right behind with rounds of 75-82-79=236, good for a tie for 39th.
Senior Joe Kastelic (Newton, N.C./Fred T. Foard) fired rounds of 78-78-81=237 and sophomore Matt Ledom (Leawood, Kan./Rockhurst Jesuit Prep) matched his total, carding rounds of 77-81-79=237 to finish tied for 44th.
Sophomore David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) put together an 81-87-76=244 scorecard for a 66th-place finish.
Host Missouri won the team title on its home course with scores of 301-299-300=900. The Bearcats (311-314=308=933) tied with Northern Iowa (318-311-304=933) for eighth.
Missouri's Jace Long was the tournament medalist, carding rounds of 71-71-74=216 to win by four strokes over teammate Stuart Ballingall (75-73-72=220).
The Bearcats have a quick turnaround for the Bluegrass Invitational hosted by Kentucky on April 9-10 in Lexington, Ky.
