Bearcats Drop 4-3 Decision to DePaul on Senior Day

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to BIG EAST foe DePaul on Sunday afternoon at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center.

DePaul opened strong, sweeping the doubles competitions to earn the doubles point. That point would loom large, as the Bearcats (9-14, 6-5 BIG EAST) and Blue Demons (13-9, 4-0 BIG EAST) split the singles competition.

After Ksenia Slynko, Jasmine Lee, and Lindsey Lonergan dropped their singles matches at positions No. 1-3, the No. 4-6 players made up the difference with three wins.

Ashleigh Witte needed a third-set tiebreaker, but defeated Christiana Raymond, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5. Safiyya Ismail topped Cali Gustafson, 6-3, 7-5, and Caitlin O'Gara defeated Samantha Kaneta, 6-4, 7-5.

Prior to the match, the Bearcats honored seniors Slynko and Lonergan in their annual Senior Day tradition.

Cincinnati will have a week and a half to prepare for the 2011 BIG EAST Championship, hosted by Notre Dame, which gets underway on April 28.
