CINCINNATI - Katie Kiriazoglou tallied a hat trick for the second-straight game, but the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a 12-9 decision to Rutgers in BIG EAST Conference action at Nippert Stadium.

The Bearcats (2-11, 0-5, BIG EAST) were in pink Sunday, celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness. The team also welcomed local youths to the game and held a postgame autograph session on the field.

Kiriazoglou's three goals led all players while Katie Liberatore and Marissa Pierson finished with two goals apiece. Maddie Fink and Laura Simanski each finished with single goals. Liberatore finished with three assists while Kiriazoglou and Ramsland had one apiece.

UC tallied three scores in the first 10 minutes of the second half, taking a 7-6 lead with 20:12 left in the game after scores from Simanski and two from Pierson.

The next 10 minutes were a see-saw battle with Rutgers taking an 8-7 lead with 15:31 remaining after connecting on a pair of free position shots. UC then answered with goals from Kiriazoglou and Fink to give UC a 9-8 lead with 11:56 to go.

Rutgers (8-5, 2-3 BIG EAST) tied things up at nine with a goal from Katherine Marino with 10:32 remaining before taking the lead for good on a free-position shot from Marlena Welsh. RU added two more goals to make the final tally 12-9.

Lindsey Watts finished with three goals to lead the Scarlet Knights. Marino, Lauren Sbrilli, Ali Steinber, and Welsh each added two goals, and Brittany Davis finished with one.

Cincinnati trailed 6-4 at the half with Liberatore and Kiriazoglou accounting for all four UC goals. Liberatore also had the lone assist.

The Scarlet Knights tallied three goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. Kiriazoglou tallied UC's first score at 18:26 and goals by Liberatore at 15:37 and 11:03 knotted things up at three apiece.

Kiriazoglou scored again at 10:41 to give UC a 4-3 lead. Rutgers added three more over the final seven minutes of the half to lead 6-4 at the break.

UC returns to action with a pair of road games next week. The Bearcats travel to Connecticut on Thursday, April 21 for a 4 p.m. first draw ahead of a Saturday, April 23 matchup at Syracuse that will begin at 1 p.m.
