STORRS, Conn. - The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a 19-9 road matchup to Connecticut, Friday in BIG EAST Conference play at the Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
The Bearcats (2-12, 0-6 BIG EAST) got a combined six goals from the hat tricks of Katie Kiriazoglou and Marissa Pierson. Katie Liberatore, MacKezie Parsons, and Kylie Ramsland each added single goals while both Liberatore and Ramsland each had an assist.
UC, facing a 13-6 halftime deficit, went down 15-6 early in the second period before scoring three-straight goals over a six minute span from Ramsland, Liberatore, and Kiriazoglou, making the score 15-9 with 15:50 remaining. UC did not find the back of the net for the final 15 minutes and UConn (7-6, 1-4 BIG EAST) added four insurance goals to make the final tally 19-9.
The Huskies' M.E. Lapham led all players with five goals while Kiersten Tupper added three scores.
Kiriazoglou opened up the scoring 90 seconds into the game, giving UC a 1-0 lead at the 28:46 mark. UConn scored five straight over the next six minutes and the Huskies held a 5-1 advantage with 22:13 left in the half. Pierson pulled one back at the 21:35 mark, making the tally 5-2.
The Bearcats and the Huskies traded goals for the next nine minutes, as Cincinnati closed the gap to 8-6 with 13 minutes remaining. Pierson added two during that span while Kiriazoglou added her second and Parsons her first. UConn closed the first half with five-straight goals, going into halftime with a 13-6 advantage.
UC returns to action Saturday, heading to Syracuse to face the Orange at noon inside the Carrier Dome.
