CINCINNATI - Senior Allison Bell had a hat trick, tallying her first three goals since the 2008 season, but it was not enough as the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a 17-6 matchup with visiting Notre Dame on Senior Day, Sunday in BIG EAST Conference action at Nippert Stadium.
Prior to the first draw, UC honored its seven-member senior class of Bell, Lynsey Burton, Lauren Kelly, Haley Marvine, Karen Skelton, Natalie Starvaggi, and Paige Stratton with an on-field ceremony and video on CATSVISION. This group was the first four-year class in the program's history. Cincinnati closed out the season at 2-14, 0-8 in league play while Notre Dame improved to 9-8, 6-2 in BIG EAST games.
Bell and Notre Dame's Kailene Abt and Maggie Tamasitis each tallied three goals, tying for the game lead. For UC, Katie Kiriazoglou, MacKenzie Parsons, and Laura Simanski each had a single goal. Kiriazoglou added three assists while Parsons finished with one.
Leading 13-2 at the half, Notre Dame added two goals in the first 10 minutes to make the margin 13 at 15-2 with 20:31 to go. Kiriazoglou helped get the offense going, having a part in three-straight goals for the Bearcats.
She scored on a goal up the middle of the field on a great feed from Parsons at the 14:33 mark before dishing assists on goals to Simanski at 10:52 and Bell at 8:20.
The UC offense was unable to convert any other opportunities and the Irish added a pair of late scores to make the final 17-6.
Bell put the Bearcats on the board 27 seconds into the game, as UC controlled the opening draw and scored on its first possession. Kiriazoglou passed to Bell who was streaking through the middle and sent it to the back of the net.
Notre Dame answered minutes later with a tally at the 27:17 mark and from there scored 10 unanswered goals to lead 11-1 with 7:46 to go in the half.
Bell scored her second off a free-position shot with 4:10 left in the half, making the score 11-2.
The Fighting Irish would score twice in the final 30 seconds of the half to take a 13-2 lead into the locker room at the half.
