CINCINNATI - Two University of Cincinnati baseball players received BIG EAST recognition when Justin Riddell (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) and Zach Isler (Union, Ky./Covington Catholic) were named to the weekly conference honor roll, the league announced Monday.
Riddell was named to the honor roll after batting.588 (10 for 17) with 5 runs scored, 8 RBI and 2 home runs in five games against Miami (Ohio) University and Seton Hall University. The senior outfielder recorded a 1.118 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage, while adding 2 stolen bases. Monday's recognition marks the third time this season Riddell has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, previously earning the distinction April 25 and March 7.
Isler earned honor roll status after pitching his first-career complete game in his lone start of the week, Game 1 of a May 14 doubleheader vs. Seton Hall. The sophomore right-hander allowed just 1 run in 9 innings pitched, while limiting Seton Hall to a .188 team batting average on 6 hits and striking out two batters in a 3-1 Cincinnati win.
In addition to Riddell's three honor rolls and Isler's first, UC players have been named to the BIG EAST honor roll three other occasions this season. Senior RHP Nick Johnson (Delphos, Ohio/St. John's) received the honor twice on April 11 and March 14. Junior first baseman Nic Spence (Victoria, Australia/St. Joseph's) was named to the list April 11. Senior right-hander Dan Jensen (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) is the lone Bearcat to win a weekly conference player of the week award in 2011 when he was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week April 4.
Cincinnati continues its seven-game, season-ending homestand at 6:30 p.m. ET Tuesday when it hosts Butler University at Marge Schott Stadium.
